SCS Brown Paper Collage

I haven't joined in on a
Mix-Ability Challenge at SCS
for ages! Time to get back on board!
Check out MIX108 HERE.

The challenge Friday was to use
brown paper as a base and include
images stamped or cut from paper
with text on it.

I adhered brown paper to my
art journal pages and then
tore hills from an almanac-type
farm catalog. I used ads that
included horses and horse equipment.

To make the birch trees, I dipped the edge of an old
credit card in black paint and swept it across the
advertising.  Then I cut the tree trunks as wide as
I wanted them to be. I adhered them and when
the multi-medium was dry I outlined them with
black and brown big Pitt artist markers.

Next I went over everything with a gesso wash.
I was careful to go vertical on the whole page
and then horizontal on the tree trunks.

I added my horse (Phyllis Harris stamp from Unity)
last and didn't whitewash him so that he would
stand out. I inked him with Vintage Photo DI.
Then I added texture paste to imitate snow.
I used a gel pen to add the snowflakes and went
around the outside of the page with Black Soot
DI on my inking tool.

This layout feels sad to me.  I may have
to add a quote or something yet.

Bday for BIL

My bil is a huge fan of anything
to do with the Old West.
I thought including a buffalo would make
a great masculine card for him.

I recently saw Jennifer McGuire
paint with colored embossing paste
so I thought that technique would be
perfect for the front, hairy part of
this buffalo.  I dyed the paste with
Distress Inks and Stain and applied
it with a paint brush after inking
my white cardstock with StazOn
brown ink. The buffalo is a
Silhouette file. I cut 4 and stacked
them all together.

The background is made on watercolor paper
with gelatos and Distress paint.
The tree is from Unity and the sentiment
is from PTI. I added a bit of grass around
his feet with Distress markers & Copics.

This is inspired by the Mix-Ability #76

Watercolor Angie Card

I haven't posted for ages! Life has been crazy
this year....DD2's wedding in April,
spring planting, moved DD1 from TX to ID.
Now our DIL and 3 grandkids are here for the month.

This is a watercolor I did for DGD1's June birthday.

Stamped the Angie Girl stamp & sentiment
from Unity Stamp Co. in StazOn , then
used Distress Markers/Inks smeared on
an acrylic block.  I picked the color
up with my new #4 brush. Love how
it turned out & will be doing more
watercoloring!

Thanks for stopping by!

Encourage Art Journal Pages

Thought I'd let you in on
a bit of the process of the
page I've been working on
the last few days.  This
journal is my project for the
Verse Challenge at SCS.

And I'm linking up to
Word Art Wednesday
for their 81st challenge and
to Art Journal Everyday
at Balzer Designs.

I am using an 8.5 x 11
sketchbook....I glue a couple
pages together to make them stronger.
I started with gesso and craft paint
diluted with water. Used a round
sponge to add the turquoise circles.
Stamped music on tissue paper
and ModPodged it down.

I added pink Thickers, spelling
"sing" but using random letters
on other parts of the page.  I put
pieces of cheesecloth over the
letters that don't spell anything.
I cut Tattered Florals from
old book paper and then added more
paint here and there.

I used random Unity Stamp Co.
stamps with StazOn black ink.
Here is a close up with the Prima
flowers and leaves cut on my
Silhouette added. I used a black
Sharpie to color the word "sing".

I printed the verse out on my
computer, using a free
"Old Typewriter" font I found online.
And here is the finished page:

Attitude of Gratitude Day 29 & FWF

APPRECIATION
What do you most appreciate in life?
Day 29.....one more day & I
will complete the 30 days of
focusing on gratitude & the
art journal I made along with some
others at the Attitude of Gratitude blog.
This has been a great exercise &
I am eager to be finished.

This is also my Unity Friends
With Flair post!  Used
Harvest of Memories & Simple Blessings sets
on this page.

The challenge was to use one ply of
a napkin on my page.  This is the
only style of napkin I had in the house
but I think it is especially fitting
since we just celebrated Thanksgiving
& appreciating everything we've been given.

Thanks for stopping by &
have a great weekend!

but never did get the post finished!

I've been working on some Christmas

some faux metal techniques
because there is a challenge

I pretty much got entralled
by this tutorial called

Mortarboard was a free studio file,
inked it directly from the inkpad.
American Thickers numbers &
mesh from orange bag under foil,
foil tape from Ace Hardware

A Little Word Art Wednesday

I've been making GRAD cards.
Some for myself, some for dd
to take to the shop where she works.
Everyone needs grad cards!
I like to give a grad something
to hang on to, like a great
Scripture verse!
Linking up to Word Art Wednesday.

The stamp is from Unity
The mortarboard was a free studio file,
I cut and glued 2 together to make them
nice and stiff.

A Mother's Day Card

Enjoying a cloudy, rainy
Scrapbooking Day!
Figured it is time to get
some Mom's Day cards made.
Here is one for my dmil.
It is a rough case of Kristina Werner's
example HERE.  I used her technique
to cut strips of paper (all mine are
from OA's Farmhouse collection)
and adhere them to a rectangle.

I used my new Unity chicken wire stamp
& VersaMark for the background.
The fibers are also Farmhouse,
Paper Studio pearls, two colored with Copics.
Ornate Artisan Stackers by Spellbinders.
The sentiment is a freebie from PaperCrafts.

Using Ippity

Here is a card using stamps from the
ippity set Life is the Journey.
I won it from a comment I left
on a blog during the ippity
Release Party a week or 2 ago.
How fun are the stamps in this set?!

I'm linking up to ippity Monday
and also entered it into a challenge
use a button.
The butterfly is an itty bitty
called Butterfly Effect.

I stamped it onto pale green
parchment paper and then watercolored
it with Chipped Sapphire DI
diluted with a mist of water.

Thanks for stopping by!
Have a blessed week!

Flashback Friday 20.0

Looking back at projects I made
way back when is always fun!!
Challenge is to find your
first black & white card.

I found three projects
that feature black & white.
The last one was the only
one I could think of at first
but I found 2 older ones.

Looks like my first
black & white card was from
December 13, 2009.
It was for 3 challenges
You can read about it HERE.

This one is from Jan. 1, 2010.

This one is from Oct. 28th, 2010.

The challenge goes until
February 24th so be sure
to join in on the blog hop
and the challenge.
Thanks for stopping by!
