February Page for Bible Verse Challenge

Linking up with
In The Studio &
Word Art Wednesday.

I haven't done any mixed media
since my SCS January Divine Design
Bible Verse Challenge page and was
really feeling like I didn't know
where to start again.

The other day I had the mesh
bag from some oranges in
my hand and thought how cool
that would look as texture on a
page.  Odd where inspiration
comes from, isn't it?!

I snipped  a couple
pieces, making sure they didn't
have straight edges, and
applied some molding paste
randomly to add them to
my previously gesso'd 9 x 12 page.

After it dried, I began adding color.
I spritzed it with Stream ColorWash,
added some orange glaze Faber Castell
Big Pitt pen to the corners and
went over the whole page with
water in my brush.

Next I added a butterfly
with my homemade
acrylic paint/water spray through
a Mini Butterfly stencil.

 I decided I wanted the
butterfly darker so used a stencil
brush this time with the original paint.

I stamped the Unity Donna Poppy
with StazOn black ink &
painted it with acrylic paint
from Ace Hardware. Drew the lines
back on here and there and
added some of the lighter paint
for some highlights.

I used some off white craft paint
to add another butterfly and
also put some around the poppies
with my finger.  I smeared
brown (the name is actually
caput mortuum..really?!
I think that means dead!
Yeah, looked it up, dead head,
worthless residue. You learned it here! :)
and leaf green Pitt pen around
the edges and green on the stems.

Chicken Wire, SHEScript, Angie Girl, dots from a KOTM

You can see the Unity stamps
I added with StazOn ink
and then I inked a little around
the edges, too.

I wanted the poppies to be a
little more red so I went over them
with my pink carmine Pitt pen.

I printed the words out on my
computer and used Wild Honey
DI to color them, glued them down
with matte ModPodge.

02.22.13 FWF

Good Friday morning!
A snowy day here, everything
looks so pretty and white again
after some months of the grungy,
thawed landscape.

Here are a few projects I
made for SCS's LOVEFEST
which goes from Feb. 14-24.
I got started kind of late so
I don't know if I'll get all 11
challenges done but I'll give
it a whirl!

The first challenge is the
L.O.V.E. challenge.  I chose
the following ingredients:
L is for letterpress
O is for oval
V is for vintage/velvet
E is for edge treatment

Just got the ornament and holly stamps
in the grab bag winnings this week.
Sentiment is now an Itty Bitty, I believe.

The 2nd challenge is a sketch.

LOVE this Happy To Be Me Itty Bitty
 silhouette stamp, HAD to have
it as soon as I saw it! Sentiment from
To the Moon & Back

The 3rd challenge is to make
a card with lots of bling.
I had this sequin fabric in my
stash so thought I'd use it
to add some sparkle.
This is for a dear friend who
will be 90 in April!
Cake is from Happy Everything,
sentiments from fabulous girl Itty Bitty

The 4th challenge is from Scor-Pal to
make a folded card.  I made this
Double Pocket Criss Cross card.

A little Unity on the back of each tag.
This one uses the Itty Bitty
Love is the Tie:

There you go, I'll show you more
of the challenges next week.
Be sure to join in the fun over there
Hop over to Unity's BLOG to
find the details for today's hop
and the links to many wonderful
projects!!

This is for the L.O.V.E. Challenge
I used:
L. Letterpress
O. Ovals
V. Vintage/Velvet
E. Edge Treatment

Stamps are from Unity
Cuttlebug folder inked for the
faux letterpress technique
Spellbinders die
glittery velvet from an envelope
(My valentine came in it!)
Tag is coffee/vanilla dyed

Sympathy Card for Unity Challenge

Unity has a new inspiration
challenge.  Check it out HERE.
There are a couple options
and I chose to use the sketch.

Here is my take on it.
I'll have another one on my blog
on Friday,
it is a much happier card!

Valentine Gift Bags

Can you stand more valentines?
DD1 drew the girl in the airplane for an
event she had last fall when classes began.
I made the valentine, scanned it and
sent it to her.  She and the department
secretary made them into gift bags
to give to the "aviation girls".

Colored the image with Copics.
Cut out the heart from a failed
valentine and used a Pitt pen to
shadow around the edges.
Added letters from LilyBeeDesigns.
I think the pp is the Paper Studio.

02.15.13 FWF-A Whole Lotta Valentines

Happy Heart FWF Friday!
You know the routine, all
the details are on Unity's
(fabulous newly designed)
blog.  Check it out HERE!
((Thanks Unity for the goodies from
last week's FWF!!))

I'm going to keep this short as
I have lots of pictures to share.
DD and I made over 100
valentines for her Valentine
Factory...giving them to
folks in care centers.
Tons and tons of Unity stamps:

Next is the card I made for her,
sentiment is Unity. (Little girl
is a digi stamp from Pink Cat Studio, colored with Copics.)

And last are two resin hearts I made
for the granddaughters. Covered
the hearts with torn tissue paper
and ModPodge and then
stamped/embellished them.
The red part is more torn tissue paper,
outlined with my new Pitt pen.
(Going to love those pens!!)

They say "encourage each other".
Encourage is my word for this year
so I thought why not encourage the
girls to be encouraging, too!

Ok, that's it from me!
Have a blessed weekend!

The Valentine Factory

Last year DD had the idea to
ask people to make Valentines
so that she could share them with
people who might not receive one.

We delivered lots of them to area
nursing homes, shut ins, etc.

Check out The Valentine Factory
on Facebook and join in the fun
of giving love to people in your
own communities! And be sure
to use a little UNITY!!

02.08.13 FWF

Rather late posting for
Unity's FWF this week.
FIL fell on the ice and broke
his hip last weekend and life
has been crazy every since.

Check out Unity's blog for
blog hop details.

Anyway, I found some time
to color the same image I used
last week.  I love horses,
we had one when the kids were
home.  DD1 asked for a card
with the horse so I made "Tano"
for her, white blaze and all.
(Happy Valentine's Day, Becky!)

Copics used:

Off to the next task on my
list.  Have a blessed weekend!!

FWF...February 1st

Welcome to the first
February Friends with Flair!
You can check out Unity's
BLOG to find the link to
tons of inspiration.  Gotta love
FWF Fridays!!

DH and I were driving
across the western part of the country.
Flew into Nevada, bought a pickup in
Arizona, saw the kids and
grandkids. California, back to Nevada,
Utah, Wyoming, SD.
Had a GREAT trip, GREAT time
together.  We got back to MN
Tuesday evening, just in time to
fall into the deep freeze.

Made this 4 x 6 card to send back to
the grandkids, it says
miss you already on the inside.

Wanted to try out this
cool chalkboard technique!

Its also time to be making
some valentines for DD's
2nd Annual Valentine Factory.
(Click the badge on my sidebar or go
look for The Valentine Factory
on Facebook if you want to
get in on giving valentines
to people who might not get one.)

I had fun with this Itty Bitty
and my Copics:

And using Copics on kraft:

Thanks for stopping by,
have a blessed weekend!
